Wiki-building is a workshop of two intensive weeks separated in the two semesters.

The aim of this course is to design and build a playground structure for children of Chateau Bernard, a small village next to Grenoble, France.

The work was done with the local children, during the first week, a first prototype was made after an exchange with the children. The final structure has been realized after improving the prototype. The entire work has been done at the «Grands Ateliers».

Before starting the conceptual work, we have done an analysis of the surroundings to take inspiration from the landscape but also choose a place to deploy in our final structure. Le Col de l’Arzelier has an abandoned ski station. The grassland in the area is used by the farmers to feed their animals. Installing a permanent structure there seemed impossible. For that reason it was thought appropriate to insert the structure in a 10x10m flat area covered by thin gravel (where previously were sitting a snow gun).

The concept is to create parkour on stilts. The steps have different heights and an arrow shape to draw a path. We wanted our structure to remain sober. For more stability issues some horizontal wooden sections keep the structure in place.

This project taught how to use machines and tools to shape wood. At the end of the week, the children played with the final structure.
