This semester’s interest is the preservation of Cornello dei Tasso, a small and antique hamlet contained in a remote area of Camerata Cornello in northern Italy. This historic inhabitant area has remained unchanged for almost five centuries giving to visitors and the locals an unique time travel experience.
The work started with an exhaustive knowledge phase that taught us many aspects about this particular location. Through the complexity of the analysis task, we decided to focalise the attention to the landscape subject. It is clear that the terrain arrangement has influenced the evolution of this particular case study.
The studio requires to produce one conservation plan of a facade from the village. And to propose an architectural project following the principles of the Italian Restoration Charter.

During this course we experienced some in-site survey techniques and interesting technologies such as photogrammetry. It was required to generate an orthophoto of the existing hamlet facades, as well as a masterplan from UAV aerial photos.
We were allowed to visualize this 3D data using the holotable from Politecnico di Milano.
Our architectural proposal comes from the lessons learned during the analysis of Cornello dei Tasso. Close to the hill is located the archeological area, a protected area composed of ruins. The traces of the remaining walls combined with historical drawings allows us to read its previous appearance. This site degradation has been slowed down thanks to a series of past conservative works. We saw the potentialities of the archeological connection with the landscape. This place offers an interesting point of view to the valley and has good sunlight exposure. Our proposal focuses on revitalizing the circulations next to the archeological site with the center of the village by creating a continuous fluent circulation thanks to an architectural structure. The project takes in consideration the untapped terraces next to the archeological area in order to give back to the community new outdoor spaces to relax, enjoy the sun and the view while also preserving those terrasses.
